Biography
Matt Gardner, PhD, focuses his research on applying gene therapy techniques to preventing and treating HIV infection. He engineers adeno-associated virus vectors to deliver HIV broadly neutralizing antibodies and inhibitors to rhesus macaques. He does this as part of his research to assess whether the antibodies and inhibitors can 1) work as an alternative to a vaccine for preventing SHIV or SIV infection as well as 2) replace the need for daily antiretroviral therapy to suppress a SHIV or SIV infection.
